This program leads to a recognition upon completion as a "Advanced Medical Exercise Specialist". We pattern the AMES residency after medical education. When a residency is completed, the physician simply is recognized as a specialist. The same holds for the AMES. Upon completion you are recognized as a Advanced MES or a specialist in medical exercise training.
Yes, if you are currently a student in the MES or PRCS you may enroll in the AMES residency. The residency will significantly improve your understanding of the application of MET techniques, assessments, etc. The ability to see an interact with a wide range of MET clients can only enhance your learning, understanding and application of MET.
You may enroll in the AMES but you will not receive the AMES recognition until after your have passed the MES final exam.
The AMES residency is designed for medical exercise professionals, kinesiologists, personal trainers, rehab assistants, massage therapists, etc. Also, currently enrolled MESs, PRCSs and MEPDs are eligible to enroll in the AMES.
There is a knowledge gap for those non-METI enrollees. Everything in the AMES is based on a foundation from the MES. If you are non-METI professional may register but you will only receive the Advanced Medical Exercise Specialist recognition after completing the MES.
A residency is usually part of the training for physicians. The residency is a period of advanced training upon graduation. This consists of a supervised practice of a specialty and instruction for more experienced specialists. The time period for residencies varies depending on the area of specialization.
The AMES residency is designed to provide advanced training and an immersion in MET. This is a year long program.
A residency is required to make sure specialists have the depth and proper training to practice their area of specialization. The AMES is the first METI. Its a very deep dive into the application of exercise for clients with medical conditions.
Medical Exercise Professionals will see greater usage and need over the next 20 years. As the need grows so will the need for a higher skills set and level of knowledge/understanding. The Advanced Medical Exercise Specialist Residency is the next step in your Medical Exercise Specialist education. The AMES will help you become the "MET Expert" in your community.

We are in this together. Social justice is expected for every human on this planet. Peaceful protests are the right of every AMexican. Violence and rioting are not acceptable. Please point out social injustice when you see it. Remember Dr King's summary of Theodore Parker's quote:
"The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."
